Sydney NorthWest Metro

Sydney NorthWest Metro

Sydney is one the major economic powerhouses of the world. In that regard, the city not having  a rapid transit system is a great calamity. The Sydney Metro Northwest, an under construction system aims to solve its problems. It aims to connect the northwestern suburbs of Sydney to the central business districts.
It is considered to be Australia’s largest public transport infrastructure project under construction. It would be the first fully automated rapid rail transit system. It is expected to open in 2019.
“Sydney Metro will deliver this major economic boost by:
·      improving access to jobs
·      changing the way people move about the
·      city and reducing congestion
·      allowing people to travel from one key centre
·      to another in minutes
·      enabling housing and employment growth
·      along Sydney’s Global Economic Corridor
·      and west to Bankstown
·      encouraging greater commercial development and jobs – in key areas of the city and

North Sydney”. (Sydneymetro.info)

Montevideo Sanitation Project

Montevideo Sanitation Project

In this blog, there have been projects detailed from several countries- from developed, developing, underdeveloped and in-development. This project is from a country which you cannot classify under any of the above mentioned categories. This is the Montevideo Sanitation Project, a sanitation project in Montevideo, the capital and largest city of Uruguay. Water quality has always been a persistent problem in Montevideo, hence the extensive economic project.

“Uruguay’s Montevideo Sanitation Project will extend the sewer system to 100 percent of the population by 2015, allowing the city to clean up its most popular beaches, and reduce contamination of rivers. Financed with support from the Inter-American Development Bank, the US$280 million program has benefited from a long-term institutional and political framework, which can cope with any changes in government” (KPMG).

Perth Wave Energy

Perth Wave Energy

Australia is making some huge efforts in creating sources of alternative energy. Whether it is solar or wind, Australia is now one of the biggest global producer. A renewable source whose potential hasn’t been reached yet is wave energy. This is where Australia is focusing on now. An offshore wave power plant based in Perth, Western Australia is under construction as of now. About $31 million have been invested in it and the power output is 5MW. It is being developed in two phases by Carnegie Wave Energy. The plant mainly uses a fully submerged device that uses wave power to pump water to shore for conversion to electricity. Its main customer would be the Australian Government Department of Defense.

“The project is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions of more than 500,000t over its entire life. A unique feature of the CETO technology is that it is fully submerged underwater and also attracts marine life” (Power-technology.com).
